In today’s society everyone is talking about drones, and likewise I’m getting asked questions about drones. One of the hottest phrases on the internet is “Don’t Drone me bro” but what is a drone and are those people that fly them in the parks terrorists?
The term drone has a lot of different meanings everything from autonomous attack vehicles that are used in war to the little toy and hobby remote controlled aircraft that are flown in parks. Even the quarter sized ProtoX is considered a drone. Drones are even used in many industries by professionals for some very useful services. Oftentimes they carry some camera equipment so that they can inspect areas that are not easily reached by person or film a unique angle to the next feature film.
Operators that are not in the military generally do not like the term drone as it generally implies that the operator is engaged in some sort of military sanctioned event and is many miles away from the aircraft. Most hobby and professionals prefer the term Multirotors to cover any non passenger, hobby, remote controlled aircraft that has 2 or more rotors. Having some experience with Radio Controlled or RC hobbies I’d like to look at the hobby aspect of Multirotors specifically quadcopters ( 4 rotors ).
Over the next several posts I would like to show what is a Multi Rotor and how you can get involved in the hobby on any budget.
