The Vibram Signa is the safest way to go barefoot in summer water sports. This past spring I have been looking for the perfect set of water shoes. I had several requirements they needed to be snug fitting, quick drying, able to protect my feet from rocks and they had to be stylish.
Finding the Vibram Signa fit the requirement for Stylish! Each individual toe is individually cupped for the optimal flexibility.
From the Photo above you can see each individual toe cup design. The uppers are very well made. Every seam and stitch are in a perfect location. The material selection allows for great breathability and allows water to flow freely into and out of the shoe. The material around the heel is a little firmer allowing the shoe to keep its shape, the fabric towards the toes is very flexible
Looking from the top of the shoe to the bottom you can see right through it giving you an idea of how well the Vibram Signa is ventilated for water and air. On the bottom, there are 2 sections that have a very flexible sole bonded on. The heel cup and the front of your foot.
One issue I had is that the toe cups are a specific length and don’t really adapt well to shorter or longer toes. That shortcoming aside I think they fit very well. They are very snug and stay in place very well.
One of my favorite things and least favorite things about the Vibram Signa is the way they function. They were purpose built to be used in wet conditions on surfaces that might be slippery and smooth. And they do their job Amazingly Well! The wet traction, that these have while giving you a much better feel for what you are stepping on is amazing. However, the increased wet traction and the amazing connection between your foot and the surface can also be a problem. If you are walking across pointy rocks, be warned that sharpness is mostly transmitted directly to your foot. Also, the pattern designed to hold your foot to the surface when wet is also a magnet for small stones and pebbles. Those stones and pebbles can cause micro-scratches on the surface you are walking on.
As a conclusion, I love the Vibram Signa they are my favorite shoes to wear everywhere from the beach to the water park and from the stream to the boat. I highly recommend the Vibram Signa to anyone looking for a nice fashionable set of water shoes with the caveat that they will not keep the rocky ground from poking your feet.
